The most important thing to be noted is that the person observing the vrat should do it with utter devotion, faith and sincerity and seek the blessings of the Goddess Lakshmi. Fruits or meals can be taken once a day and only the physically frail people can have meals twice a day. The person observing the vrat should be fasting on the day, that is Friday, and should have the sweet offerings made to the Goddess. Rules for observing the vrat of VaibhavaLakshmi include reciting a hymn to praise the Goddess Lakshmi. Instead the vrat should be observed the next Friday and it should continue for as many Fridays as has been decided at the time of taking the oath. A menstruating woman or if a death has taken place in the family, the vrat should not be observed. This would make the Goddess happy as the vrat of the Goddess would spread more and she would bless you in return. During the celebration of vrat, the “VaibhavaLakshmivrat” books should be distributed to seven, eleven, twenty-one, fifty one or hundred and one women, according to the will of the person observing the vrath.
It can be substituted by silver or a rupee coin. For observing the vrat, gold ornament is preferred. The vrat should be observed for as many Fridays, as decided at the time of taking the oath. If a devotee is unable to observe the vrat on a Friday, as he or she has to remain outdoors for some commitment, then he or she should observe the vrat definitely the following Friday at his or her residence only. The vrat can be observed the second time, after taking the oath devotedly. The vrat should be celebrated in accordance to the Shastras performing the proper ceremonies, after observance of the Vrat on a Friday, as is decided while taking the oath.The ceremony is fairly simple and if the vrat is not observed in accordance to a proper ceremony,as described by the Shastras, no award is given to the family member performing it. There are certain rites mentioned in the Shastras, according to which the rites should be observed for the eleven or the twenty-one Fridays according to a person’s oath. The vrat should not be observed half-heartedly.
While observing the vrat, there should be a lot of dedication, devotion and intense desire. An award is also given to a man, if he observes this vrat, just in the same way it is awarded to a woman. If there are no married women in the family, this vrat can be observed by any unmarried girl. An award is given to the married women, who observe the Vaibhava Lakshmi vrat process.
